It's been a pretty normal past two days... High points:
First meeting as a newly elected officer! It was great to listen to all the speakers, and get to know more of the faculty members. Plus, there was Chinese food... whoever invented the idea of a dinner meeting was a GENIUS.
Weather never cooperates with my "cute outfit" days. Naturally, I dressed up for my first meeting but did not account for the flood-like waters on my walk back from said meeting. My pants were soaked from mid-thigh all the way down! And my poor, poor flats... they were quite wet from the 4 inches of water on the sidewalk!
Due to my run-in with the rain, I was not feeling the whole "go out and socialize on a Thursday evening whilst playing Trivia" idea. Instead, I went into nerd - mom mode. I did some quality homework for two hours and then snuggled up in my PJs to download new tunes to my iPod. Oh, and of course had to catch the latest episode of Jersey Shore. I just can't look away-- it's too captivating.
I leave you with the best visual of the night....
Me, snuggled in my latest Lilly Pulitzer teal & pink printed pajamas. My adorable purple and lime green lamp dimly providing light to the bedroom. Reading the beautiful "True Prep" book as my first 'fun read' since being at school. It makes me miss all my sorority sisters and captivating undergraduate life in small-town Virginia. Oh, to be back below the Mason-Dixon....
Welp, it's Friday night and I'm going out on the town. I'm ignoring the weather reports and am headed out in a gorgeous J.Crew orange sundress coupled with a jet-setting jean jacket. And of course, my latest steal--- carmel suede flats with cute gold buckles. Here's to a fashionably-fun evening, ya'll. Cheers!

Victory!
You know that feeling when it's Christmas Eve and you know that Santa is coming within the next 8 hours, but you just don't know when? And you don't know what he will bring?
Well, that's how I've felt for the past 4 hours waiting for campus election results! Umm, cue the "I'm just gonna log into campus email again to see if it's been posted yet." Never mind the fact that I just checked 7 minutes ago. Well, I am proud to say that I am an officer-elect! I am ever-so excited to learn more about how the school operates, and hopefully have a hand in some great ideas for the student body!
Today, as every Wednesday, is a mad rush to get as much homework done as possible in order to be prepared for tomorrow. Tonight was special in that I also had to work on the final draft of my first legal memo! What a great milestone.
I enjoyed the opportunity to take in a few extra minutes this afternoon and chat with my mom on the phone. She was taking our dog on a walk around the neighborhood back home and filling me in on the latest " 'hood happenings ". It was great to just sit back, listen to her day, and share our funny stories of the day with each other. Like mother, like daughter. We always know how to have a good laugh out of the day's events.
I bid you goodnight. Up early to begin the study session!

Good Points
Today was a busy day, but overall productive. Had some of my favorite elements such as:
1. I stayed on schedule. Yes, I do find it VERY helpful to schedule my every move during the day so as to optimize my studying and "just plain breathing" time. Sounds excessive, but it keeps me sane.
2. I answered a question in class. The professor acknowledged the answer, then moved on. No follow-ups, no nothing. We went on to the next case. SCORE for a succinct answer!
3. I went to the gym. I love escaping the little town and getting a little sweaty (well, a lot sweaty, but hey-- burn those calories!).
4. I got to listen to the radio! Nothing like a 20 minute drive times two to let yourself JAM OUT to good ole' country music... and throw in some rap in there too. Holla to Eminem.
5. Scrumptious, well-balanced meal. I kid you not-- in 45 minutes, with minimal effort: baked potato, baked asparagus, and smoked salmon. It was DELICIOUS and made me miss home.
6. All materials are printed for tomorrow and there was even time for couch dwelling for 20 minutes!
Onward, for it is definitely my bedtime now!

Be Boppin' around Town
So, it has been a while since I've been on here.... And for that, I apologize!
Law life is getting' crazy, but this weekend I had several opportunities to live and socialize like a real 20-something again! Friday night, I went out with some friends to a new city in New Hampshire to sample some ethnic cuisine. I have to say, it felt so nice to have girl-talk in a nice restaurant and not have to make my own meal! I totally get what my Mom has been saying all these years about enjoying the nice "one night out a week" to have a chance to relax and really enjoy a meal and your company. As soon as we got back to our town, we went right out to our local spot... and it was bumpin'. All of us law students enjoyed the cheap night out-- $1 drinks!
After Friday night, it's always nothin' but studying... but I was asked to join a Dinner Club and our first meeting was this past Saturday. It was nice to get to hang out with some students from another section and again, enjoy a meal and company! Had lots of great conversations and a few healthy laughs. Plus, who doesn't love a chance to display a new set of outfits?
Social hour continued this morning when I went with a group of people to the local pancake Mom and Pop shop. Their specialty is pancakes and waffles, but alas me and my allergy, I had some mighty fine eggs and bacon! As soon as I got back to my place, it was down to the study grind and I am proud to say that I got most of my "to do" list done! Rounded out the evening by traveling back to NH to pick up some gas and groceries. Thrilling errands, I know.
Here's hoping to as smooth a week as possible! Chat soon, I promise!

Wonderful Words
Just got a great email from one of my organizations.
It had a great quote that I just had to share with ya'll:
"Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself." -John Dewey, 1879
It's been a great educational day for me... had a successful "cold call." I didn't pass out from nervousness and had a very competent answer that was referenced another time later in class! A success for me! I'd like to improve my answer clarity next time that I'm called on... but it's a learning game, I guess. Hahaha-- that was a pretty weak joke.
Weekend updates soon, right now I'm just trying to tread water with my assignments...

Yay First Week!
So, it's been a while since I've last posted. It has been crazy here!
First, who would've thought that when I moved from Virginia to Vermont that I would experience a torrential hurricane in late August?? Certainly not me! There are many people in the town that've been affected by the incredible flooding that occurred. The river rose about 21 feet over normal levels and I have never seen water rushing like that before. Businesses were destroyed, homes torn or swept away, and livelihoods affected. My heart goes out to those families. I am so lucky to have not experienced any property damage at my apartment.
The hurricane certainly brought the law school community closer together. I, for one, really enjoyed the opportunity to get to know people better during the days following the hurricane when we didn't have school or electricity. Oh yea, school was cancelled for TWO DAYS. We went on walks, had update chats on the sidewalks, a free town lunch on the green, and a lovely potluck dinner by the light of one lampshade!! We were lucky enough to have a generator that powers both the refrigerator and one other optional device--- computer, phone, or a lamp at night.
First week of classes. And by week, I mean Wednesday through Friday. It was wild. It was nerve-wracking. It was exciting. I sometimes felt like I couldn't breathe, or that my heart would stop beating. But, the important part is what I've been focusing on: I SURVIVED. I now have first-hand experience with what law school really is like and how it operated within the classroom. Lots left to learn, but I'm just gonna keep truckin' along.
Best event of the week: MY BIRTHDAY!! Twenty-three, and I feel good. It also happened to fall on the first day of school. That hasn't happened since the fifth grade! I had three classes that day and did a LOT of reading prep for the next day's classes. I did, however, chug along so that by 8 PM, I was done with school and ready to be the birthday girl! I watched Sex and the City episodes while I opened the most thoughtful cards and gifts from my friends and family. I'm not an emotional person (I actually hate any display of emotion) but all the well-wishes and thoughtfulness in the cards seriously made me cry.
I had to pull it together and put on my favorite Kerry side... the PARTY HOSTESS. I invited some new friend- 1Ls and neighbors over for a brief "birthday party" at my apartment. I baked a splendid marble cake complete with sprinkles, of course! I presented it as a birthday celebration/ study break to the attendees and we all had cake and beer. What a great combo, right? It was the perfect end to a birthday day.
The rest of the week was crazy as well... but weekend updates to come later!
